Indian Navy Commissions First Indigenous DSV INS Nistar
What Happened
The Indian Navy commissioned INS Nistar, its first indigenously designed and built Diving Support Vessel (DSV), at Visakhapatnam on July 18, 2025. Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, the 10,000-tonne ship acts as a 'Mother Ship' for Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles (DSRVs).
Why It Matters
It boosts India's maritime self-reliance by providing critical deep-sea submarine rescue, salvage, and diving capabilities at depths up to 300 metres.
