Commissioning of INS Mahe ASW-SWC
What Happened
The Indian Navy commissioned INS Mahe, the first of eight indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW-SWC), at Mumbai. Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, these vessels will replace the aging Abhay-class corvettes for coastal defense.
Why It Matters
With over 80 percent indigenous content, it strengthens India's self-reliance in naval defense and enhances the Navy's ability to track hostile submarines in shallow coastal waters.
