Strategic Direction: BEFORE, the government was pursuing 100 percent strategic disinvestment (privatization) as per a 2021 Cabinet decision. NOW, the government has injected significant capital to retain and revive RINL as a state-owned going concern.

Financial Structure: BEFORE, RINL faced negative net worth and had defaulted on working capital limits and loan repayments by mid-2024. NOW, an equity infusion of Rs 10,300 crore will drastically improve its balance sheet and liquidity position.

Operational Capacity: BEFORE, financial distress forced the shutdown of major production units, dropping output well below its installed capacity. NOW, the funds will be used to immediately restart two blast furnaces in early 2025, and a third by August 2025.
