What Changed

Districts Assessed: The index evaluated 105 districts in the 2021 baseline edition, whereas the 2023-24 edition now covers 121 districts across the eight North Eastern states.

Front Runner Category Share: Previously, only 62 percent of the evaluated districts achieved 'Front Runner' status (scoring 65-99); this has now increased significantly to 85 percent.
- ▶
Top Performing District: While East Sikkim was historically a top performer, Hnahthial (Mizoram) took the absolute top spot in the 2023-24 index with a composite score of 81.43.
- ▶
State-level Consistency: Earlier editions showed higher intra-state disparity, but currently, 100 percent of districts in Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura have reached the Front Runner status.
