[One District One Product]

The One District One Product (ODOP) is a flagship scheme of the Government of India, anchored by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The core concept is to identify, brand, and promote one unique product from each district to foster balanced regional development and transform local specialties into global brands.

The initiative was first launched by the Uttar Pradesh Government on January 24, 2018, with Moradabad's brassware as an early example, and was later adopted by the Central Government and scaled nationwide. It was inspired by Japan's "One Village One Product" model and aims to solve the problem of promoting local entrepreneurship and unlocking the economic potential of every district.

The scheme works by having States and Union Territories select a product based on the existing local ecosystem, which can include agricultural produce, handicrafts, textiles, or food items. The mechanism provides support through financial assistance, skill development, and the establishment of Common Facility Centres (CFCs). Key provisions include linking ODOP products to wider markets through digital platforms like the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and the ODOP Bazaar. As of August 2025, the initiative had identified 1,243 products from 775 districts.

ODOP is closely connected to the Districts as Export Hub (DEH) initiative of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and aligns with the broader national visions of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local. It is also integrated with the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, which adopts the ODOP approach for value chain development in the food processing sector. A recent development is the promotion of ODOP products through dedicated retail hubs called PM Ekta Malls. The scheme has continuously expanded since its launch, with its core mechanism of district-level product specialization remaining the same.
