The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) is the apex body and an institution representing the interests of the Indian auto component industry. It was founded in 1959 to represent manufacturers and has since played a critical role in the growth and development of the sector. ACMA's core charter is to develop a globally competitive Indian Auto Component Industry and strengthen its role in national economic development.
ACMA works through a mechanism of policy advocacy, capability development, and industry collaboration. It is represented on various panels, committees, and councils of the Government of India, through which it helps in the formulation of policies and regulations pertaining to the automotive industry. Key activities include trade promotion, technology up-gradation, quality enhancement, and the collection and dissemination of information. For instance, ACMA contributes to manufacturing excellence through skills training and initiatives like 'Zero Defect Quality' and 'Sustainable Manufacturing'. The association also organizes the Auto Expo in association with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
In recent times, ACMA has focused on the industry's transition towards future mobility, noting that electric vehicle components (excluding lithium-ion batteries) now account for 4.6% of domestic Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) supplies. The association has also stressed the need for greater investment in Industry 5.0 concepts, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and digital manufacturing skills, to sustain India's position as a global manufacturing hub. The industry, which recorded a turnover of ₹7.6 lakh crore ($85.9 billion) in FY26, is targeting a landmark $200 billion valuation by 2030.
