Critical Minerals Partnership

The Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) is a transnational association and concept designed to secure a stable supply of critical raw materials for member economies. It was inaugurated in June 2022 to address the increasing demand for critical minerals, which are essential for technologies like electric vehicles and advanced batteries, and to counter the tight supply chain dominated by a single country. The MSP's goal is to ensure these minerals are produced, processed, and recycled in a manner that supports the economic development of countries with geological endowments. India was inducted into the MSP in June 2023.

The partnership works by accelerating the development of diverse and sustainable critical energy minerals supply chains through targeted financial and diplomatic support for strategic projects along the entire value chain. A core mechanism is the shared commitment to high Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards for all projects. The MSP is connected to India's domestic efforts through Khanij Bidesh India Ltd. (KABIL), a joint venture established in 2019 to acquire critical mineral assets overseas. India also engages in bilateral agreements, such as the Australia - India Critical Minerals Investment Partnership, formalized by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in March 2022 between the AU Critical Minerals Office and KABIL. Recently, the MSP was succeeded by the Forum on Resource Geostrategic Engagement (FORGE), which was announced on February 4, 2026, to build upon the MSP's work in strengthening diversified and secure critical minerals supply chains.
