The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) is the apex body of Export Promotion Organisations in India, established as an institution in 1965. It was set up jointly by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, and the private trade and industry segment to serve as a premier body representing and assisting Indian entrepreneurs and exporters in foreign markets. FIEO is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
FIEO functions as the crucial interface between the international trading community and the Central and State Governments, financial institutions, and logistics providers. Under the Foreign Trade Policy, FIEO is designated as a Registering Authority for status holder exporting firms and multi-product exporters. A key mechanism is the issuance of the Registration Cum Membership Certificate (RCMC), which is required to access many government export promotion schemes. It also issues the Certificate of Origin (Non-Preferential), a document required by many countries as proof of the goods' origin.
FIEO connects directly to the Department of Commerce by developing and maintaining the Indian Trade Portal (www.indiantradeportal.in), which provides information on tariffs, rules of origin, and trade policies. In recent years, FIEO has welcomed new interventions under the Export Promotion Mission (EPM), such as TRACE (Trade Regulations, Accreditation & Compliance Enablement) and FLOW (Facilitating logistics, Overseas Warehousing & Fulfilment), which focus on enhancing MSME competitiveness. Furthermore, it welcomed new GST reforms aimed at easing compliance and streamlining trade processes for exporters. The organization also launched the Niryat Mitra mobile application on August 8, 2018, to provide exporters with policy updates and market information.
