The Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) is a sophisticated, automated command and control network, which functions as the Indian Air Force's (IAF) air-defence "brain". It is a concept and a system designed to monitor and respond to aerial threats in real-time across India's airspace. The system's origin is rooted in the need to address major gaps in real-time situational awareness and airspace coordination exposed during the Kargil War in 1999. The IAF also envisaged the system in 1995 following the Purulia arms dropping incident, and it was included in the IAF's first Air Power Doctrinal manual published in October 1995.
The IACCS works by integrating all air defence assets to create a comprehensive and real-time air threat response. It collects data from various sources, including military and civilian radars, airborne surveillance aircraft like AWACS, and mobile observation posts. This data is fused to generate a single, unified picture of the aerial battlefield called the Recognised Air Situation Picture (RASP). The system operates on the Air Force Network (AFNET), a dedicated digital information grid inaugurated on September 14, 2010, which replaced the IAF's older communication network. The IACCS is indigenously developed by Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL).
The IACCS connects to and integrates the air defence systems of the other two services, such as the Indian Army's Akashteer Air Defence Control and Reporting System and the Indian Navy's Trigun Maritime Domain Awareness System. The system has been undergoing continuous modernization, with the third phase of "upgradation and modernisation" currently underway. This third phase, accelerated after its crucial role in Operation Sindoor in May 2025, focuses on multi-domain operations, integrating Artificial Intelligence for threat evaluation, and enhancing sensor-to-shooter connectivity for Beyond Visual Range engagements.
