K. Radhakrishnan Committee

The term K. Radhakrishnan Committee refers to multiple high-level expert bodies constituted by the Ministry of Education, all chaired by former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, focusing on structural reforms in the education sector.

One significant committee was formed in November 2022 to strengthen the Assessment & Accreditation processes for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and prepare a roadmap for the National Accreditation Council (NAC) envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. This committee proposed a Binary Accreditation System of "Accredited" or "Not Accredited" to replace the current eight-point grading system (A++ to D) used by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The mechanism also recommended bringing institutions like the IITs under the accreditation ambit and subsuming the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) under the proposed NAC.

A second, more recent committee was constituted in June 2024 following the NEET-UG exam paper leak to recommend reforms for the examination process and improve the structure of the National Testing Agency (NTA). This committee submitted 101 recommendations in October 2024 to ensure transparent and fair conduct of examinations. Key provisions include restructuring the NTA with three designated sub-committees—Test Audit, Ethics, and Transparency—and establishing secured standardized testing centres (STC) in every district to reduce dependence on external test delivery agencies. This committee directly connects to the security and integrity of national entrance examinations.
