The term SACHET refers to two distinct, current concepts in India: the Integrated Alert System for disaster management, and a financial portal by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to report illegal deposit schemes.
The Integrated Alert System (SACHET), which means "alert," is a national scheme/system for disaster communication, launched by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) using indigenous technology, it was created to solve the problem of ensuring timely, last-mile delivery of critical warnings during emergencies. The system's first nationwide trial, which included a siren alert, was conducted on May 2, 2026.
SACHET works by employing Cell Broadcast (CB) technology, which is built on the international standard Common Alerting Protocol (CAP). This mechanism is a one-way communication system that sends geo-targeted alerts to all mobile devices connected to towers within a defined area, without requiring internet connectivity. The alerts, which cover natural disasters and man-made emergencies, override silent or Do Not Disturb modes and are supported in 19 Indian languages. The system is currently operational across all 36 States and Union Territories of India. The nationwide trial in May 2026 marked a significant recent change, shifting India's disaster management towards a proactive framework.
