The improvement in India-China relations, as highlighted by the External Affairs Minister, underscores the critical linkage between border tranquility and bilateral cooperation. The 2020 standoff at the (LAC) severely disrupted diplomatic, economic, and cultural exchanges. The resolution of these localized conflicts at the LAC is essential not just for diplomatic normalcy but also for alleviating the persistent security threat on the frontier. The doctrine that "the state of the border determines the state of the relationship" makes border management a central pillar of national security strategy. Effective border management requires a blend of military preparedness, robust infrastructure, and continuous diplomatic engagement through mechanisms like the . From a UPSC perspective, understanding the historical context of the boundary dispute, the mechanisms for conflict resolution, and the strategic implications of a two-front threat (China and Pakistan) is vital.
